When you furnish a new baby’s room, you need to consider everything from suitable furniture and bedroom sets, to bedding, soft furnishings and all the other types of baby bedroom accessories that are available. Everything needs to be considered, including décor and the items that will make your new child’s room extra special.

Once you have decided what sort of baby crib or cot you are going to use, you need to be sure that there is adequate storage for clothing and other items that you want to keep in baby’s room. While older kids bedding can usually be stored alongside bedding for adult members of the family, in a special linen cupboard, it is useful to have cupboards or a chest of drawers for a baby’s bedding and towels. Open shelves can also be useful baby bedroom accessories, but only for items that are easy to dust and keep clean. For health and hygienic reasons, clothing and linen should always be stored behind closed doors. Apart from anything else, dust can inhibit a baby’s breathing and make him or her cough.

Once you have assembled the more practical baby bedroom accessories you want, you can consider those that will add to the look and possibly a theme of the room. These items include soft furnishings which may be in the form of curtains or more practical blinds, as well as quilts and bed covers. Bedroom sets often include a dressing table or cabinets of some sort, and these should also match the style of the other toddler furniture you have chosen to use.

It is also a good idea to select a color theme for bedroom accessories. Many mums still like the idea of pink for girls and blue for boys, but if you think how quickly babies become toddlers – and how quickly toddlers become running, skipping, hopping, jumping children – who quickly become teenagers … you may want to rethink that idea.

Pictures and photographs are great baby bedroom accessories which not only add color but character as well. Or if you are a creative person, you might like the idea of accessorizing the room with a hand painted murals or some colorful stencils.

Another very easy way to accessorize is to use soft toys. These can easily add color and also enhance some sort of theme from Disney characters or animals to butterflies and birds or flowers. Remember that babies need stimulation, and color, shape and sound all provide this.
